2007 is the year when I first set foot on the property as a proper beer drinker. Until that moment wine was not for me. However after a solid glass of VANDENBELD BQ 2005 I quickly became addicted to Michel’s wines and wine in general.
To this day VANDENBELD wines have been our house wine.
In particular, the winegrower’s ability to make a good glass of wine every year is particularly exceptional given the circumstances in which the wine process takes place. The fresh, floral, white, sauvignon-based sec is especially recommended every year.
If you like a solid Merlot, then Michel’s flagship product is recommended, the VANDENBELD exclusive, this wine comes unfiltered in the bottle and consists of 100% Merlot that has been on newwood for 14 months.
The deep tones of the wine come out perfectly with a piece of red meat.
From a successful owner of a cheese shop in the Netherlands to a promising wine grower. That is the story of Michel and Erica van den Beld and their son Stan, soon to be wine grower. Ever since they started in France in 2002, they have been investing in quality both in the vineyard and in their wine making abilities, and you can taste the result every year. The range of wines is great. Dry white wine both barrel aged and non-barrel aged and in good years even a slightly sweet white. The rose, made from the Merlot grape is a very good companion for spicy foods but is also good company on a sunny day. In the red wine one can taste the craftsmanship of Michel. The red wine is good value, the barrel aged is fantastic. Special attention for the barrel aged Magnum red wine which is a real treat for the taste palette. All in all a successful transition from selling cheese to making wine.
June 4th in 2004. In The Netherlands well known for ‘the substition’ (The Netherlands-Czech Republic (2-3) during European Championship football in Portugal; Arjen Robben was already man of the match but substituted by the coach, resulting in the loss), was the first time we set foot on Michel’s and Erica’s domain La Rogère, Minzac. We knew them from their deli in Wageningen. In 2004 we had an opportunity to visit their estate. We have been there almost every year since. The quality of their wines and the very welcoming and hospitable atmosphere during summer evenings at their table d’hote attracts us from every other part of France. Erica’s cooking accompanied with their VandenBeld-wines is always a joy which ends another day on a high note. Full bodied red wines, fresh white sec and almost sparkling rosé wine, VandenBeld offers it all.
